Carradale is on the east coast of the Kintyre Peninsula about midway between Tarbert and Campbeltown, near the Mull of Kintyre. It’s an ideal base from which to explore the natural beauty of the outstanding Kintyre Peninsula and the ferry network to Arran, Gigha, Islay and Jura.

It is serviced only by a West Coast Motor Services bus route though. So if you get here by bus, then you’ll be reliant on that service if you haven’t any other form of transport. This is okay if it’s what you want but quite limiting in terms of timely travel to other areas of Kintyre so we’d recommend your transportation such as a car etc.

It is so remote you might hear yourself think and allow yourself to let the world in and be creative like Naomi Mitchison did who authored over 90 books!  Or you may enjoy the feeling of getting away from it all.

You’ll love Carradale if you like scenic views, a deserted beach, and peace and quiet

Within the house, you’ll find all the expected accoutrements, such as luxurious bedding, all the little extras you might need and spotlessly clean home.

Terrestrial television is available, and there is a selection of DVDs and access to our PLEX media server for a variety of films and TV series (subject to Internet availability). There are plenty of board games supplied too. Satellite and Cable TV services are not available. Radio reception is also fine.

You can connect to the WiFi router as you would in any cafe or at home. The password is in the Welcome Brochure. This service can be subject to sporadic interruptions due to the remoteness of the holiday home, and availability can’t be guaranteed.

Regarding baby facilities, we have a travel cot that is available for use. We also have a high chair, a child booster seat and a baby bath.  Please let us know you want it out of storage when you make the booking.

Heating and hot water are further detailed in the Welcome Brochure; the multi-fuel burner (taking wood or coal), once lit for about 30 minutes, not only boils enough hot water for regular domestic use but also serves the radiators in each room.

We supply you with enough fuel for your stay, but if you use too much and run out (which no one ever has), then you can buy more, details are in the Welcome Brochure.

The kitchen is fully equipped with an electric oven and four hobs, fridge with freezer compartment, a freezer, a slow cooker and a washing machine.  There are all sorts of extras like espresso and cappuccino machine, filter coffee machine, kettle, cafetiere, food mixers, microwave oven, and so on. Any questions ask!

There is one main bar at the Carradale Hotel called the Cruban, and that’s the “village pub” (although we must say the Ashbank Hotel offers some lovely beers and wines and are really welcoming and very friendly). Then there’s also the bar at The Glen Bar & Restaurant!

Most amenities will require pre-booking.

Eating out is limited but very pleasant with locally sourced produce from most outlets, there’s Carradales for a 5-star experience (space is limited and booking essential), The Glen Bar & Restaurant and the Carradale Hotel

You’ll find tea rooms such as Drumfearne which is fantastic and the newly opened Dottie’s Cafe (at the network centre) offering delicious traditional café fare. 

For the golfers, there’s Carradale Golf Club with an acclaimed nine-hole golf course with amazing 360° views.

There is a temporary village shop filled with local Kintyre produce and staples just outside the Village Hall (you pass it on the way into Carradale) and a new village shop planned to be opened very soon at the Post Office.

And if you fancy a hair cut or a bit of pampering, you can visit the eco-friendly micro-salon in Carradale called H’Airds.

For a more extensive selection of goods, you’ll need to pay a visit to the Co-op or Tesco Metro in Campbeltown.

To keep the children occupied just outside the front door 5 minutes along a short path heading toward Deer Hill through Seneval Wood, you’ll find a Lottery Funded playground with the usual assortment of swings and see-saws.

And last but not least, the fantastic scenery, the magnificent Carradale Bay, the walks, the cycle routes, the fresh air, nature, the historical monuments and sites that are all nearby or an ideal day trip away.

There’s a stunning beach at Carradale Bay. This is just ten minutes walk from Cuilidh. You could use a car to drive there if you needed to.

Carradale is on the east coast of the stunning Kintyre peninsula. There are no dual carriageways, it’s mainly one A road with B roads that form the network. Many of the B roads are single track with lots of Passing Places.

Travel to Kintyre

By road

Take the A82 from Glasgow passing Loch Lomond. At Tarbet take the A83 towards Arrochar, taking in sights at Inveraray with Loch Long visible on your left. Continue on the A83 passing through Lochgilphead. A few miles south of Tarbert at Kennacraig (Calmac ferries) you can either take the B8001 and join the B842 at Claonaig to B879 Carradale (the scenic single track route) or continue on the A83 toward Campbeltown joining the B842 there then the B879. The latter adds 28 miles to the trip but can be handy if you need last-minute supplies or either the B8001 or B842 north of Carradale is closed.

By ferry

Calmac ferries – look for the Firth of Clyde timetables.

Take the ferry from Ardrossan to Brodick on the Isle of Arran. Take the A841 to Lochranza and join the ferry there taking the Lochranza to Claonaig route where you can take the B842 to Carradale. Or bypass Arran and take the ferry from Ardrossan to Campbeltown and join the B842.

By air

LoganAir runs a twice-daily flight to Machrihanish airstrip, situated just outside Campbeltown.

By bus

From Glasgow, take the West Coast Motors 926 bus to Campbeltown via Oban. Once here West Coast Motors also provide local services. In particular, you may want the Campbeltown and Carradale service. More details of their services can be found on their website.

  • This is a self-catering holiday home and you are responsible for cleaning your own materials and clothing, the cooking and eating utensils and for leaving the holiday home in a reasonably clean and tidy condition.

  • There’s a maximum comfortable occupancy of six persons. These could be any age but there needs to be at least one responsible adult capable of looking after the other guests.
  • You may use the garden and front lawn for normal and acceptable purposes.

  • The front storm door, even when opened fully, is quite narrow and has a step and small vestibule. The inner front door is standard and has a raised threshold.
  • The back door is of standard width and has a step and a slightly raised threshold.
  • All utilities are on the ground floor, including one bedroom.
  • The bathroom and kitchen don’t have any specialised fittings or access.

It’s a ten/fifteen-minute walk from the holiday home to reach it. The main points to note are that you can register with the Carradale Surgery as a temporary resident if you need help and any prescriptions you need are via the Scottish NHS with prescriptions being free in Scotland for UK residents*.

*Please note: During the Covid-19 pandemic, this service is limited to emergencies only. You will need to contact your own GP for remote consultation in non-emergency events.

We only take bookings with payment in advance and confirm then.

If you are booking for business purposes we can discuss invoicing but in all cases, a booking is not considered confirmed until payment is received in full in advance of the booking.

We do not take walk-in bookings under any circumstances.

We only take bookings with a minimum of 48 hours in advance of check-in date with payment in advance.

You can cancel any time however if you cancel too close to check-in, and depending on rate, you may have to pay for all or part of the booking. Rates vary on this so please look at the specific rate information when you make your booking and make a considered choice.

Cleaning at Cuilidh

  • All surfaces are cleaned according to guidelines issued by the UK Government and industry bodies such as Visit Britain, Visit Scotland, The AA and the Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers.
  • We use detergents and disinfectant protocols, including UV-C which has been tested successfully against SARS-CoV-2 (commonly known as Covid-19 or CoronaVirus).
  • All laundry is washed at or above 60°C; we rotate multiple sets.
  • We have an industry mark issued by Visit Scotland recognising the changes we’ve put in place to assure you.
  • We are accredited in the AA COVID Confident scheme

If you’ve seen us on Online Travel Agency sites (OTA’s) like Airbnb, Booking.com, Expedia you’ll know we offer great value. We offer the best rates through our own website here by an average of around 10%. We also only run promotions and discounts on this site. 

We’re very sorry but we don’t allow pets. 

On road parking is available. We also offer a fast Type 2 7kW charging unit at Gowanlea B&B which can also be used by you free of charge.

There’s a rapid charger at Campbeltown Ferry Terminal and Campbeltown County Garage.
